Hi Rachel,

We met at the opening of the United Nations general assembly dinner in the press lounge. I am with "the caribbean voice newspaper". I lost your card and just this minute found it in one of my moving boxes. I do hope to hear from you. Your web site is the best. . . I am excited to see that you are celebrating life through this medium. More people should consider doing a personal web site.

Rachel,

I remember you as a child during a visit to camp many, many years ago.

Stumbled upon your site during a search. Nice site, especially the Camp. It brings back fond memories of annual vacations there when I was a child. I just wish you hadn't referred to my Grandfather as 'Art'.

Say HI to my cousin David.

Hi, came across your site, after I read this review (question and answers ) about Georgia, I'm Georgian living in UK, London for a 3 year educational mission :), I hope you guys will get know real Georgia and Georgian hospitality, I've recently been there for holidays with my English friend who loved it, All the times I was describing Georgia to him like and Hell, because living there was awful during 1996-1999, and now he saw Georgia with me, which has changed a lot in economical perspective, and I am very glad that USA is a friend for us and helps us to maintain stability from Russian mafia, Government.. BTW. My fav. restaurant is an Old House "DZWELI SAKLI" i bet you have already been there...

Have a great time there, p.s. one correction in review(gay society is quiet big in Tbilisi, Bar Success and club NEO in saburtalo, usual places)

Comment:  Hi there Rachel / Roger!

I'm a 60 year old, recently retired chartered accountant living in new Zealand. Over the years, my wife and I have traveled extensively overseas. In recent years, my health patterns (I have a chronic fatigue condition) has precluded me accompanying my wife on her annual sorties to far flung locations. So I nowadays, I use the Internet to 'virtually accompany her' on her travels.

This year, having spent a week on Easter Island and 3 weeks in Cuba, my wife Norma has been traveling in Spain + Portugal for (so far) 8 weeks. A mobile phone text message very recently to hand said she has just arrived in Merida for 2 days, en route to Lisbon (which is her on/off base for her spell on the Iberian peninsula.  Naturally, much as I have been doing all along, when I get text messages telling me where she is (or about to be) and what she is up to, I hurry to my PC to check out web pages addressing that location.

These past few days, scouring the Internet, I'd been battling to find worthwhile images of Merida on the Internet: for the most part, those I found using the Google search engine (first 3 or 4 pages of search results) and Copernicus multi-engine search software, were either tiny, blurry, unsuitable, or all three! So it was with great delight that I came across your web site pages ... via a specific search for Puente Romana (there had to be an image somewhere depicting a panorama view of substantially the entire bridge!). Of course, that led me to all the other splendid images you have of scenes in and about Merida ... and then (looking back at what images you had of places Norma already had visited) images of Avila (I really did appreciate seeing your top rate images of the city walls: I had been longing to get a better feel for how huge, extensive and magnificent the walls really are) and so on. I only wished your overall photographic coverage of Spain had extended to Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria too!

I certainly will be checking out non-Spain images on your web site when town allows. The quality of the images you provide make it so worthwhile.

While I appreciate that the display you provide is aimed primarily at your relatives, friends and work colleagues, I do appreciate that you have taken the trouble to share the images with a 'wider public'. Thank you very much for your contribution to my visual enjoyment and education!

Hooray! [That's the Kiwi equivalent of Adios!] - - -   J    [John Waugh]

Comment:  I read a review of yours on Amazon.com, saw that you lived in Amman, and thought I would check out your website. My interest in Jordan is from when my daughter was on a couple of archaeological excavations in Aqaba and so it sparked my interest. Your pictures were so wonderful. And the travel story to Petra was a delight. I was looking for more travel stories. I personally feel you could write a book about your travels. They are so informative. I am passing this website address along to my daughter. I think she will find it interesting.

Your site is so cool and very interesting. I am from Sarajevo and the way you write about Bosnia, is something that every American should read and understand. You have a pretty good picture of Bosnian culture..I am glad to see that someone have interest in learning about other cultures, especially about such a small country, torn in war, as is Bosnia. I left Sarajevo in Nov. of 1994 and I love my city..! If you would like, you can visit my web site at: http://www.move.to/melisa I wish you all the best in the future..Continue the best work as it is..exploring the World....Good Luck...Sincerely, Melisa -Sarajka:)..BYE

My family has maintained a cottage there, on the eastern shore, since the 1930s; so it was a pleasure to find a history of the place. I recall meeting some Petersons on Sampson's Pond as a kid, so perhaps I've crossed paths with some of your clan. Good luck in your travels. Jim

Comment:  It was really cool, but I couldn't find a lot of things like I didn't get to see the pictures of Tuzla and all the other things I wanted and I think Rachel is little bit sarchastic about Tuzla. Next time you write something about the citys keep in mind that people from all over the world will read that.  [ editor's note: Danijela didn't leave her email address so I have to mention to her publically that she shouldn't kid herself - Tuzla is indeed a miserable, grey, muddy, depressing little town - However, she must have overlooked the fact that I also noted that the people we were friends with in Tuzla were some of the most amazing and wonderful human beings we have ever encountered - in any country.  The Tuzlans were fantastic, bar-none. No sarcasm, Danijela, just honesty. ]

Comment:  Everything I read... I found your site because I'm thinking about going to Albania (to the adriatic) for the last two weeks of August this year with my family (wife, child). My wife and I lived in Budapest for almost five years and our daughter was born there! Since returning from Hungary, the only traveling I've done was to Mongolia!
In any event... I'd far prefer arranging my trip via personal contacts... I wonder if you wouldn't be interested in sharing some contact info. for some of the people you met (and liked!) in Albania?
What I can offer in exchange is two things: I can bring items over on the trip to give as gifts, or act as a courier for people if there is a need for such a thing...and/or I'll open my large victorian here in Roslindale to anyone wanting somewhere to stay in the Boston area!
Thanks for such an entertaining site! Hope I hear from you! best wishes, Joshua

Comment:  Hey folks--you've done such a wonderful job with this site--I'm jealous and want to do one too. How'd you do it? News here--Abigail can write her name and has figured out on her own how to draw cats, birds, butterflies and fish--pretty cool. Lydia peed in her potty for the first time last week -- whoohoo! Her repetoire of nursery rhymes is growing every day. Love to you both!

Comment:  The travelogues and photos. Having visited some of these places, it was fun to see them again. Other (new) ones give me the urge to travel anew.
The book reviews were of interest, simply because I'm nosy about what other people read and whether they like it. Can't say there was much overlap in tastes, although there was some.
The writing is very good.

thought the book reviews were interesting, but was curious why there were no books about a motorcycle-riding softball-pitching chef who throws a mean curveball as well as terrific parties? isn't there a sequel about a mustachioed, trumpet-playing expatriate development specialist who loves the previously mentioned character? could this be fiction?
