RIDGE ROAD CAMP
Established 1924, South Carver, Massachusetts

Maggie Mills writes, "One of the most beautiful ponds in Southeastern Massachusetts is the 310 acre Sampson's Pond in South Carver. Classified as one of the "great ponds," it comes under the jurisdiction of the state. The boating enthusiast can see the bottom of the clear "pond". Used for boating, swimming, and as irrigation for area cranberry bogs, it is a recreational spot for hundreds of townspeople, vacationers, and out-of-towners."

In 1923, a Carver farmer, Arthur Peterson, purchased a quarter acre of shore property in the "new" northeast cove for $100 and that winter built a fishing camp for his family, at that time the only seasonal structure on the pond. Today, three generations later, Peterson's grand, great, and great great grandchildren continue to enjoy this, their seasonal home ("Thanks, Art! $100 well spent!").
